We’ve got an awesome German experience lined up for y’all too. 🇩🇪 We kick it off with German Mike’s Food Truck serving up supper from 1-7 PM. ⚽️ Then of course we are showing the game on both TVs with the sound on the overhead speakers at 1 PM. 🍺 No German watch party would be complete without beer, so we will have four authentic German beers on tap for the day: @paulaner Pilsner, @frueh_koelsch Kolsch, @ayinger_privatbrauerei Weisse, and @hacker_pschorr Dunkel . All off these beers will be available in pint pours ($7) OR in liter stein pours ($10). *** Bring your washed/clean BROUWERIJ DUBOIS STEIN to take advantage of the stein price. A limited number of Paulaner steins will be available for free when we open. A limited number of BD steins will be available for purchase with beer fill for $25. *** Plus, we’ve got some amazing free swag and stuff to give away. Wear your alpine hat and get a Paulaner pin for it. We also have Paulaner keychains, Germany color face paint sticks, and Germany inflatables. I hope all of my weird side stories aren't annoying to people. Although, truthfully, I kind of don't care. 😂 When I was a kid, I used to think Alice in Wonderland was written about me. I genuinely thought it was "Allison Wonderland." I don't remember exactly why I felt so connected to it, only that I did. The story has lived somewhere inside me for as long as I can remember. We even rescued a horse whose actual name turned out to be Alison Wonderland. She remains one of the great joys of my life, even though she's since passed on. All of this is to say that one of my favorite quotes from the story is: "Sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." So friends, I'm asking you to believe in six impossible things before breakfast. This week has been a rollercoaster. We lost Steve. Moo gave birth to puppies. There are a dozen other things happening behind the scenes. And today, Sundae underwent the first of her major corrective surgeries. The first surgery, as in there is another one in the pipeline. We still need the community of Steves to show up and help us make this impossible magic happen. When the surgeons first presented the plan, we were told each surgery could cost up to $20,000. Two surgeries. Up to $40,000 total. And yes, that sounds crazy. It sounds irrational. It sounds impossible... Until you dig your heels in and decide it isn't. A few months ago, Steve and Sundae were just two forgotten horses. Today, thousands of people know their names. Thousands of people have decided their lives matter. That's impossible thing number one. Let's keep going.

Somehow in the chaos of an all night delivery, I missed taking photos of one of the puppies. Moo ended up having a very long but overall textbook delivery of 9 puppies, one of whom was sadly stillborn and could not be revived. Moo and her 8 healthy babies (2 boys and 6 girls) are now resting. The pups are all different colors from black to brindle, one grey and even one white with black spots like mama. Everyone will be adoptable when age appropriate and fully vetted, so please keep an eye out for updates. We are so thankful for your support which makes this possible. 🤍

👋MEET THE OWNERS👋 lots of new faces around here so it felt like a good time to reintroduce ourselves! hi, we’re blake and leah, the owners of ardmore coffee! we’re coming up on our third anniversary of owning the shop at the end of the summer and what a wonderful experience this has been. we took over the shop during our senior years of college, while learning how to navigate being full-time students and taking on a huge responsibility of becoming small business owners in that same time. we’ve always had a vision for AC and it’s special to see it slowly coming together over the years. since then, we’ve graduated from our respective colleges with business degrees, got engaged and married, moved into our first house right up the street, and even welcomed our first baby, monroe, into the crew this past spring- all with you guys by our sides. this has been a dream of ours for years and getting to do what you love with the people you love the most is truly a once in a lifetime experience. we say it often, but thank YOU ALL for helping us make this all a reality. we are so, so grateful for our staff who work hard every day and for our customers for showing up and loving what we do 🫶 can’t wait to see what this next year brings! Moo is in active labor and still delivering puppies as I write this. We know there are at least 7 in there from the x-rays taken during vet visit that Cyndi took her to right after finding her. They also saw at least 11 pellets lodged throughout her body from where she had been shot. But, thankfully that hard past is behind her now. I wanted to share the birth video of her first puppy with you. What a miracle it is to watch her natural instincts take over to nurture this tiny life into the world. This little boy came out feet first, and we decided to keep with the cow theme and call him Angus. Welcome to the world, wee one. Your story begins with safety, warmth, and a mother who loves you. And that's exactly how it should be. 🐾✨

Thanks to everyone who joined us last night for a fun screening of The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings and a q&a/ with Steve "Nub" Anderson who portrayed a Negro Leagues ballplayer with one arm in the movie and played for the Indianapolis Clowns, a forerunner to today's "Banana League." Prior to the film screening, we were joined by Mayor of Winston-Salem Allen Joines who declared the day Steve Anderson Day to commemorate his contributions to baseball. During the Q&A session, Anderson showcased really cool techniques and illustrated how a disabled person can play elite baseball. He is an inspiration to other disabled players and gained visibility thanks to this film! We're so proud to have hosted this fantastic event with Steve and grateful that he spent the evening sharing his story with us! #winstonsalem #baseball #wsnc #dtws #downtownwinstonsalem

Meet our big boy Blue Thunder!💙 Blue Thunder is a deaf 5-year-old, 84-pound white-and-black big boy with mismatched eyes and a story that'll stay with you. He's calm and soulful, with a quiet confidence about him. He's the kind of dog who will find the sunniest patch of grass, settle in, and just be. At night, the foster set up a dog bed next to them, and he settled in really well. He slept there basically every night with little to no fuss, no restlessness or resistance to settling down. 😆 Blue Thunder is very communicative and tends to tell you when he wants something. He can be pretty vocal, barking and getting a bit mouthy, but he is trying to express a need rather than guard a space. The tricky part is figuring out what he is asking for in the moment. In general, he does not seem to like being alone and prefers knowing someone is nearby. Today we mourn the loss of our friend, Chef Niki Farrington. I wish I had something profound or poignant to say, but this one hurts. Niki was feisty and hilarious. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, and was quick to tell me if I was being a dumba*s. Her support and mentorship were paramount in helping me muster up the courage to open a restaurant. When I started Heff’s, her pickles were my only non negotiable ingredient (in fact I may not have opened without them). She has been such an integral part of our journey, and we will continue to honor her legacy in every way we can moving forward. I scrolled through dozens of “Hey Chef, can I get another bucket?” texts, to the very first time I approached her about supplying pickles for the shop. She was so stoked about the partnership, and has delivered a bucket pretty much every week for the past four years. It will be sad and strange not to send that text this week. Our hearts go out to her many close friends and loved ones. Her passing is a tremendous blow to the Winston community at large, and we will all miss her so very much. Please hold your loved ones tight, be grateful for the breath in your lungs, and seek to tackle each day with the same drive and tenacity that Niki had. Rest easy friend.

A VIP experience like no other for Miles, a 9-year-old patient at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Brenner Children’s Hospital. Diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at just 2 years old and facing a relapse at 6, he’s spent much of his childhood in treatment. Through it all, he’s remained resilient, positive and a constant source of encouragement for those around him. A lifelong love of baseball and art made this day even more meaningful. Seeing his custom jersey design come to life, hearing the crowd cheer him on and rounding the bases on the field made it a moment he’ll never forget. We are incredibly grateful that every animal, staff member, volunteer, and visitor is safe. Meet Moo. 💚 She was found as a stray by my friend Cyndi, who couldn't leave her in a parking lot to fend for herself. Moo is visibly pregnant and desperately needed safety, shelter, and love. Cyndi called every rescue in our area, and every single one was full. The pet overpopulation crisis is real, and it's heartbreaking. Every day, wonderful animals end up homeless because people fail to spay and neuter their pets. Rescues everywhere are stretched beyond capacity. When Cyndi asked if we could help, I met Moo and instantly fell in love with her. So while she'll continue being fostered by Cyndi, we're bringing Moo into the Red Feather care community and will make sure she and her puppies receive everything they need. Moo has already seen a veterinarian, who confirmed that these babies could arrive any day now. Today we got a puppy cam set up and started preparing for the arrival of her little brood. Maybe it's her shape, or maybe it's because she's carrying so much potential inside that tiny body, but Moo reminds me of a little caterpillar. 🐛 And so I keep telling her that I can't wait to meet her butterflies. 🦋 For now, we're keeping her comfortable, safe, and loved while we wait for the next chapter of her story to begin. Welcome to the RF family, Moo.

🚨 HOURS UPDATE🚨 Following today's fire, we will be closed on Wednesday, June 10th. More work is still underway at our facility to ensure the safety of our staff and animals. Today, our foster community reminded us exactly what compassion looks like. When we needed them most, they answered the call. Within minutes, foster families rearranged schedules, opened their homes, loaded up carriers, and welcomed animals with open arms, providing a safe, quiet place for them to rest while our team responds to today's shelter fire. They did not hesitate. They simply showed up. To every foster parent who dropped everything to help, every volunteer who offered a hand, and every supporter who reached out to ask what was needed: thank you. Because of this incredible community, our animals remain safe, loved, and cared for. This is what compassion in action looks like. And today, we could not be more grateful.❤️

Adopt Jake! Jake's journey began on the streets, where he spent the first several months of his life fending for himself. Rescued at around 8 months old, he has embraced life as a beloved companion and continues to blossom every day. Jake is a sweet, affectionate, and spirited boy with a fun-loving personality. He's smart, eager to please, and highly responsive to the people he trusts. While he hasn't had extensive formal training, he is a quick learner and would thrive with continued guidance and consistency. One of Jake's favorite pastimes is playing with his beloved Lamb Chop toys—especially if he gets the chance to remove all the fluff! He may not be motivated by every treat, but he's definitely motivated by food and can often be found happily dancing in anticipation of mealtime. Once you discover a treat he truly loves, you'll have his full attention. Jake gets along wonderfully with dogs, cats, and children. He currently lives peacefully with two other dogs and three cats, making him a great candidate for a variety of family situations. He loves car rides, enjoys exploring the yard on his long lead, and is always happy to lend a "paw" in the kitchen—especially when it comes to helping clean dishes in the dishwasher. When the day is done, Jake's favorite place is right beside his people. He's a devoted cuddler who would gladly share your bed and your heart. Jake is looking for a family that will continue to show him patience, love, and understanding as he finishes learning the finer points of being a gentleman. All of our animals are safe. ❤️🐾 Earlier today, we experienced a fire in the ceiling of our shelter. Thanks to the quick response of our staff and the fire department, the situation was brought under control and every animal and staff member is safe. Out of an abundance of caution, Forsyth Humane Society will be closed for the remainder of the day while first responders remain on site and we complete the necessary safety assessments. We are incredibly grateful for the professionalism of our local fire department and for the support and patience of our community. We will share additional updates as they become available. 🇩🇪World Cup Soccer has arrived in Winston-Salem! GERMAN ROOTS: In the 18th century, a group of German Protestants known as the Moravians settled in what would become Winston-Salem. More than 270 years later, the German National Team has chosen the city as its official base camp for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. COMMUNITY TRAINING SESSION: Last night, fans packed Spry Stadium at @wfuniversity for a ticketed open training session — waving flags, getting autographs, and watching the four-time World Cup champions train up close. WHY WINSTON? Before the session began, the president of the German Football Association addressed the crowd, thanking Winston-Salem for the warm welcome. He said the city was their first choice for base camp due to the accommodations at @graylynestate, the world-class facilities at Spry Stadium, and the proximity between the two. Germany enters the tournament as one of the stronger contenders to win it all.

Today, we said goodbye to Steve. The drive home from Virginia Tech was impossibly long. Every time I looked in the mirror, I was reminded that there was an empty trailer behind me that was supposed to be carrying Steve home. I am absolutely heartbroken. I wanted this story to end differently. I wanted so badly to fix him. After evaluating Steve, his surgical team determined that the damage to his ligaments was simply too advanced. His surgeon told us, "There isn't a pain medication on the market that can make him feel better." We couldn't save Steve. But we could save him from suffering. Knowing it was the right thing to do doesn't make it hurt any less. I keep thinking about how unfair his short life was. He was only three years old. And yet somehow he remained curious, bright, spicy, and entirely himself. Still Steve. The only comfort I can find tonight is knowing that he is finally free from the pain he carried every day. I'm begging you, please don't let this be the end of Project Steve, because it was never just about Steve. It's about Sundae. It's about the herd. It's about the horses we haven't met yet. Please help us carry his light forward. 💔

She loves soft blankets, sunny spots, and rope toys, which bring out her playful side in the best way.😆 She is a good communicator and will politely let you know when her water needs refreshing, her bowl needs filling, or her litter box needs attention. She likes having her own cozy space and prefers affection on her own terms while she is still building trust, which is completely fair and worth respecting. The team arrived today, will have an open training session tonight (sold out!), and will continue to train and live here as the tournament runs June 11 through July 19 across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. On June 13th, Old Salem will celebrate the life of Peter Oliver: an enslaved Moravian man who lived and worked in Salem in the late 1700's. Oliver became a skilled potter and craftsman, and is Salem's only documented individual to successfully purchase his own freedom, which was finalized in a Lancaster, PA courthouse on June 13th, 1800🏺 In cooperation with Creative Corridors, this year's Peter Oliver Day will feature special programming and interpretation throughout the district, with an emphasis on Black history, freedom, and post-emancipation life in Salem Peter Oliver’s story will take center stage in the buildings most directly connected to his life. Steve and I are on our way to Virginia Tech for his big day of diagnostics, followed by several stacked surgical procedures. Right now, we have two horses receiving advanced care at two of the best veterinary teaching hospitals in the country. Steve is headed to Virginia Tech, and Sundae is at New Bolton Center. I don't usually lean into urgency or emotion in my posts because it isn't really my style. But today, I'm going to be honest: I AM TERRIFIED. Over the next three weeks, we're facing nearly $50,000 in quoted veterinary expenses. We didn't ask for this, and neither did Steve or Sundae. Every major medical case comes with risk and the weight of making difficult decisions. But our philosophy is that if a horse shows us they want to live, and our veterinary team believes there is a path forward, then we're going to try. Steve wants to fight, Sundae wants to fight. They're both babies. And so we're going to fight right alongside them. It gives me hope knowing there are people out there who believe these lives matter just as much as we do. Project Steve was built on that belief... that somewhere out there is the person who can help make this possible, or many people who can come together. Maybe they're named Steve, maybe they're not. A special day for our MVP ⚾ Today's exclusive 6-7 @wsdashbaseball jerseys were designed by our very own, 9-year-old Miles from Atrium Health Levine Children's Brenner Children's Hospital. Diagnosed with leukemia at age 2 and later facing a relapse at age 6, Miles has spent much of his childhood in and out of treatment. Through it all, he’s stayed unmistakably himself - resilient, positive and always encouraging those around him. Miles’ love of baseball and art led him to this moment. Seeing his 6-7 jerseys take the field, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, and rounding the bases with the crowd cheering him on was the perfect day for this baseball-loving kid! Thank you, Winston-Salem Dash, for helping us make this day extra special for him 🎗️
