WHAT: Volunteers hand-sew patchwork teddy bears for local children facing difficult times. Local resident Pat Taylor founded the nonprofit in 2019 while grieving the loss of her son.
HOW IT WORKS: The nonprofit partners with law enforcement, fire and emergency services, and child and family services to get bears into the hands of kids who need them most. Over 3,000 bears have been distributed to date.
GET INVOLVED: Volunteers meet every Thursday morning at South Fork Recreation Center to sew and stuff bears. No sewing experience required. Interested? Send them a message on their website to join (https://projectbuddybearsnc.org/).

Chet has been working on carving Tulip Poplar into a trough, which will be part of the large frame of an ash hopper. Ashes from hardwood trees are placed in the ash hopper, water is poured over the ashes, and lye begins to drip. The lye is collected and mixed with rendered animal fat to create soap!

💪 Special Olympics North Carolina joined Camp Discovery and the MLK WePlay Youth Camp for an engaging day of learning and activity! Participants explored healthy eating habits, learned about the importance of fitness, and took part in fun sports drills and activities that promoted teamwork, wellness, and confidence. 🎵 Guests also enjoyed a special tongue drum demonstration led by Abdul Muhammad, a member of Winston-Salem Recreation & Parks SilverArts. His interactive session provided a unique musical experience for campers from both Camp Discovery and the MLK WePlay Youth Camp. 🛝 Camp Discovery also took a field trip to The Quarry at Grant Park, where campers enjoyed scenic views from the overlook pier, played games, and explored the play area.
⚾ A special visit from Bolt and the Winston-Salem Dash made for an unforgettable day at camp at Sprague Street Community Center! Campers enjoyed a presentation about the Dash, learned more about Bolt and his role with the team, and had the opportunity to ask questions. To top it all off, Bolt signed autographs and spent time with campers. Thank you to the Winston-Salem Dash for stopping by and sharing the excitement of baseball with our campers!

(HE DIDN’T DIE, DON’T FREAK OUT 😭) Hi guys :)) As a lot of you know, my boy Khonshu has recently had a visit and had to stay for a few nights at the Emergency Vet because of urinary blockage due to crystals. Fortunately, the vet was an amazing help and saved Khonshu’s life thanks to everyone who donated to the GoFundMe and helped us raise money for his vet bill. He is now doing way better, and is now on medicated food for a while, if not for life (poor baby 🥹).
I have raised Khonshu since birth, and he is the sweetest little baby. Way before everything happened at the vet, I have been planning on finding him a forever home. Unfortunately..I feel, especially now, I do not have the funds (nor the mental capacity tbh ), to give him the care he needs to/should be getting. It does make me sad that I can’t be the one to give that to him, but I feel the least I could do is find him someone who has the time and capacity that can give that to him.
He is the sweetest boy, he loves affection, cuddles, he is very vocal and will talk back (sassy boy), he is litter trained, though I have not gotten the chance to neuter him, i’m still working on and trying to see if I am able to. He is turning 2 years old on Oct. 14th this year, so he’s still a wittle baby meow meow boo. (DGD reference 😏). Plz plz if you have any questions or if you’re interested..dm me. Sharing also helps. :))

The Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS research was a 2014 trend that took social media by storm and raised millions to help find a breakthrough for this terrible disease.
Well it’s been 12 years and former Tennessee Titans Running Back Chris Johnson is pushing to bring it back in the wake of his diagnosis. As a lifelong Titans fan, Jordan can’t not participate, so he’s gonna do it Sunday at 3 PM in the Garden Canopy of Brouwerij DuBois. Come watch him make a donation of $250, challenge three others, and then get iced!
But don’t stop there. You too can participate. Bring a towel and a set of dry clothes, your phone, and a list of three people to challenge. We will do the rest! We have the buckets, the ice, and we will even hold your phone to take your video for you.
And if we get another 20 people to participate, BD will donate an additional $250 that same day!
We want a crowd on hand to root on those that are taking the challenge. And if you don’t want to get cold and wet, feel free to just cheer or make your own donation. The link is below:

Remy is a sweet, smart 1-year-old mixed breed who's ready to find his forever home. He's crate trained, understands basic cues, and already knows the ropes of being a great house dog.
He's a clever pup and is learning more every day at FHS. Remy is food-motivated, enjoys training, and is a joy to work with! One of his favorite treats is carrots. 🥕
Remy is a young dog with plenty of energy, so he should go to a home where he can get his exercise and enrichment needs met. He would also love to have another dog in the home to play with!

Showcasing keyboard instruments such as the clavichord and harpsichord, which filled homes with music, while the pipe organ anchored Moravian worship. During the 19th century, reed organs and melodeons brought music into churches, homes, and family parlors. By the late 19th century, the piano had become America's most beloved keyboard instrument.

From July 16 through August 30, experience Unboxed: Art Beyond the Museum, the inaugural exhibition in NCMA Winston-Salem’s new downtown art space. Admission is free and open to the public.
Unboxed brings together artists who have contributed to the Museum’s Portable Gallery, an education initiative that places original works by North Carolina artists directly into schools across the state. Last year alone, the program connected more than 2,000 students with contemporary art.

Last week, we had the honor of testifying before the New York City Council in support of Romanch's Law, legislation that would finally end the horse-drawn carriage industry in New York City.
Alongside an incredible coalition of rescues and sanctuaries from across the country, we committed to something that has never existed before: a coordinated, lifelong retirement plan for every carriage horse who needs one.
In the face of a carriage industry ban, we continually hear the same question: "But what will happen to the horses?"
Now we have an answer.
Safe transport. Quarantine. Veterinary care. Legal placement agreements. Lifelong oversight. A network of accredited sanctuaries prepared to ensure these horses never enter the auction or slaughter pipeline.
No horse should have to face uncertainty after a lifetime of work just because there was no plan for their retirement.
We did the planning. Now it's time to do the right thing. Thank you to everyone who has supported this work. The horses deserve nothing less. ❤️🐴

Council Member James Gennaro has repeatedly stated:
“As an equestrian for more than 60 years, and as someone who has spent decades serving New Yorkers both in City Hall and the City Council, I am urging my colleagues to take a step back before making a mistake the city will come to regret.”
He wrote these words in a @cityandstateny opinion piece and repeated the same sentiment multiple times during the New York City Council hearing.
Part of my testimony addressed something I believe is important.
Simply loving horses or riding horses does not automatically make someone an expert in what is best for horses.
Real horsemanship is a lifelong education. It means continuing to learn as science advances, listening to veterinarians, behaviorists, researchers, and rescuers, and adapting your thinking when the evidence leads you somewhere new. The people I respect most in the horse world are those who never stop learning.
Because at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter whether a horse is a draft horse, a Standardbred, or a Saddlebred. Every one of them is still a prey animal living and working in one of the busiest and most unpredictable urban environments in the world.
That is my point.
Council Member Gennaro, we would genuinely welcome the opportunity to have a conversation with you.
Our coalition has spent the last year building a responsible retirement plan with equine professionals, rescues, and sanctuaries. We aren’t trying to take these horses away. We are offering them a safe place to go if Romanch’s Law passes.
Before any undecided council member casts their vote, I hope they will take the time to hear directly from the people who have dedicated themselves to building that future.

This is a night to remember, a space to share love, and a chance to support the family of someone who meant so much to all of us. We will be accepting donations at the front of the bar, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Chris’s family.
Whether you are picking up a prop for the first time, sharing a memory, or just wanting to sit back and be surrounded by community, please come out. Let’s flow, remember, and hold each other close.

Throughout the day, Kaleideum Staff and friends teamed up with fellow Trainers to take on Mega Mewtwo Y in Pokémon GO raids during Pokémon GO Fest.

The first photo was taken the day Sundae arrived at Red Feather in April. Her legs were so severely deformed that her knees actually crossed over one another.
The second photo is one her surgeon sent me on Thursday after removing the cast from her left leg. I honestly couldn't believe the difference. The transformation is nothing short of remarkable.
The little shoe on her right hoof is helping support the fetlock joint, which had become weakened after months of compensating for her knee being turned almost completely sideways.
Sundae will remain at New Bolton for another couple of weeks while her second surgical fusion continues to heal. Right now the focus is on pain management, careful monitoring, and giving her every opportunity to recover comfortably.
She still has a long road ahead, but she's been given a chance that so many dwarf horses never receive.
Dwarf miniature horses like Sundae are intentionally bred for profit by unscrupulous breeders, despite the devastating medical problems they often face. Many are discarded at auctions with no concern for the lifelong care they'll require. Others are purchased for petting zoos or bred again to produce even more tiny horses.
By every measure, Sundae beat the odds.
With your support, she is receiving the life-changing surgeries she needed. She has a future now.

During FY 2024–25, approximately 1,400 students participated in the Kaleideum Invention Convention. As North Carolina’s only Invention Convention hub, Kaleideum gives students the opportunity to identify real-world problems, develop original solutions, build prototypes, and share the thinking behind their inventions.
It’s a chance for students to be creative, take risks, solve problems, and discover that their ideas really do matter.

Dillon Fence — Greg Humphreys, Chris Goode, Scott Carle, and Kent Alphin — returns in 2026 to celebrate their second album, Outside In!
The band formed as college students at UNC Chapel Hill and Wake Forest in the late ‘80s. Their first full-length album Rosemary made a splash with songs honed at countless beer-soaked frat parties and nightclub shows.
Their follow-up sophomore album, Outside In — produced by Lou Giordano at Fort Apache Studios in Boston, MA — was quite different than Rosemary. Many DF fans consider Outside In to be the band’s best collection of songs. Outside In took the band out on tours with bands like X, Lush, and Weezer, and onto MTV’s 120 Minutes with music videos for “Collapsis” and “Black Eyed Susan.”
