It's International Picnic Day, and what better way to celebrate the holiday than to announce that our friend @bigdumbhick will be opening for Mark Stuart in Gas Hill Drinking Room on July 9, 2026! Doors at 7 PM, show at 8 PM. Tickets are on sale NOW at TheRamkat.com! Jeff Wall, known to many as The Bigdumbhick, is an acoustic singer-songwriter-storyteller living in North Carolina. At 6’7” and somewhere around 300+ lbs., he’s most certainly Big. Usually seen in bib overalls, if he’s wearing anything at all, you might be excused for thinking he’s something of a hick, but don’t make the mistake of thinking that he’s dumb. That’s just a disguise. There’s a whole lot more going on here than first appearances might indicate. Last week at Camp: ⛳️ The Earnest Morris Golf Camp at Winston Lake was in full swing, teaching young golfers new techniques and building their skills for when they tee off. From hitting the green to getting out of sand traps, these golfers are honing their skil-FORE! 🌟 Camp Discovery campers had a great time exploring history during their field trip to Historic Bethabara Park! From learning about the past to enjoying the outdoor experience, it was a day full of discovery and fun. We also enjoyed a visit from the Be Healthy Camp kids, who participated in hands-on healthy cooking activities. We can’t wait for more delicious learning in the weeks ahead! 🐾 Camp Discovery and WePlay Youth Camp at Martin L. King Jr. Community Center had an exciting visit from Guilford Courthouse National Military Park! Campers created clay molds of animal footprints and beautiful nature collage sun catchers.

Winston-Salem Stories: But, There Is A Silver Lining ⚾️ “‘No one wants to lose their arm,’ Steve says with a shrug, ‘but there is a silver lining.’ Steve Anderson and I are sitting across from each other in the dug out of a local ballpark. It’s a good shady spot that fits the theme of our interview – a tribute to his life in sports, both in the Negro Leagues and in the city’s Recreation and Parks Department. The sleeve of his Indianapolis Clowns jersey is folded inward, where his left arm would be. He lost it at six years old when he was hit by a truck. Steve is 78 now. History truly came alive through captivating demonstrations like mustard making, baking, and surveying. The energy and enthusiasm from our visitors made the day especially memorable. ❤️ We had a great turnout for this month’s Community Health Fair at Georgia Taylor Neighborhood Center! It was a wonderful afternoon connecting with neighbors and providing helpful health resources to keep our community thriving. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and took a step toward a healthier lifestyle with us! 🫙 Hanes Hosiery Community Center created beautiful, colorful sand jars during Beach Vibes Sand Jars! Each jar featured creative layered designs, seashells, and even a light to help them shine at night. 🍳 Our Kids in the Kitchen at Miller Park Community Center was mastering kitchen appliances and whipping up tasty meals! Last week, our young chef took over the kitchen to prepare a delicious cheese omelette. It was a wonderful way to gain confidence while learning to prep and cook a favorite dish from scratch! He's a retired manufacturing CEO, and while I won't share his name publicly, his words meant a great deal to me. He wrote: "The creativity of this campaign reflects positively on you... The caring reflects even more positively on your character. In today's world, too few people care about others." What touched me most is that he understood what Project Steve is truly about. Yes, we are trying to raise money for veterinary care. But we are also trying to create something hopeful. Something that would make people smile, and remind us that kindness still exists. He also shared Project Steve with another Steve and promised to share it with more. That's exactly how this movement grows. One Steve at a time. Thank you, Steve. After nearly a decade of nonstop touring - earning hundreds of millions of streams with fan favorites like “Halfway Up” and “Everything Is Just a Mess” - the band regrouped in Nashville, meeting every morning to write and rehearse like their early days in Birmingham, Alabama. Life unfolded in the background: weddings, divorces, real-world growing pains. Inside the room, it was all music. I hope all of my weird side stories aren't annoying to people. Although, truthfully, I kind of don't care. 😂 When I was a kid, I used to think Alice in Wonderland was written about me. I genuinely thought it was "Allison Wonderland." I don't remember exactly why I felt so connected to it, only that I did. The story has lived somewhere inside me for as long as I can remember. We even rescued a horse whose actual name turned out to be Alison Wonderland. She remains one of the great joys of my life, even though she's since passed on. All of this is to say that one of my favorite quotes from the story is: "Sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." So friends, I'm asking you to believe in six impossible things before breakfast. This week has been a rollercoaster. We lost Steve. Moo gave birth to puppies. There are a dozen other things happening behind the scenes. And today, Sundae underwent the first of her major corrective surgeries. The first surgery, as in there is another one in the pipeline. We still need the community of Steves to show up and help us make this impossible magic happen. When the surgeons first presented the plan, we were told each surgery could cost up to $20,000. Two surgeries. Up to $40,000 total. And yes, that sounds crazy. It sounds irrational. It sounds impossible... Until you dig your heels in and decide it isn't. A few months ago, Steve and Sundae were just two forgotten horses. Today, thousands of people know their names. Thousands of people have decided their lives matter. That's impossible thing number one. Let's keep going.
