Sundae arrived less than a week ago and is still in quarantine as we treat the myriad of conditions she came in with and await veterinary diagnostics on her legs. Getting rid of the massive lice infestation, which is honestly the most severe case I’ve seen to date, brought her immediate relief. She’s so much more comfortable now that her skin isn’t literally crawling with parasites, and we often find her stretched out in the sunshine, fast asleep. Thursday is the big day where we’ll take X-rays of her legs and start to understand what options exist for orthopedic care. We are very hopeful that our veterinarians can help Sundae achieve the healing she deserves. Of course she is so precious and sweet, it’s hard to be around her without falling head over heels in love with her. But loving Sundae also means telling the truth about how she got here. She didn’t just “happen," she was created... Likely bred for novelty or profit without consideration for the lifelong medical care she will require. Sundae deserves everything we can give her now. And horses like her deserve better from the start.

We have an update on sweet Maple… and it’s one worth celebrating 🎉 First, we just have to say, the team at the UGA has been nothing short of extraordinary. The level of care, precision, and compassion they’ve shown not just Maple, but all 3 pigs we’ve brought to them from the hoarding case… it’s beyond anything we could have hoped for. They are meticulous. They are compassionate. They are truly at the top of their game. And maybe the most comforting part of all? They treat our animals like royalty. 👑 Maple even had her own little princess bed and she absolutely adored it. When you leave your babies at a hospital, you pray they’re surrounded by people who will fight for them like you would… people who will advocate for them every step of the way, determined to see them walk back out those doors. And thanks to this incredible team… ✨ We are 3 for 3! Every single one has come home. ✨ That is something we will never, ever take for granted. Back here at the River Center for Compassionate Care, our recovery stalls are full tonight, filled with little lives healing, resting, and rediscovering joy. With temperatures dropping from the 50s into the 30s overnight, these warm, safe spaces mean everything. We keep it cozy, never letting it fall below 60 degrees, and watching these babies snuggle into their straw and blankets… making their own little beds… it’s pure magic. Just one month ago, many of these pigs were simply surviving. Now… they’re living. 💕 And now, they’re ready for the next chapter. 🐷Maple is available for adoption, along with her friends Miss Piggy, Misty, Izzy, Mirabelle, Lulu, and so many more. These babies deserve forever homes where they will be cherished for the rest of their lives. If you’ve ever thought about opening your heart and home… this is your moment. We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dan Green and our partners at @softstall for helping us create these incredible recovery spaces. With padded flooring&walls, these pigs are surrounded by comfort and safety as they heal and it has made all the difference in their recovery. It was a great way to enjoy the fresh air while learning to identify different plants and trees along the path. Thank you to everyone who joined our guided hike and spent some time discovering the nature that makes Salem Lake so special! 🥾 🎣 We had a blast teaching the basics at our Intro to Fishing event at Salem Lake! Our expert anglers guided participants through everything from identifying fish species to mastering the right equipment. The highlight was putting those new skills to the test right off the pier. It was a great day of patience, practice, and community as we wrapped up Forsyth Creek Week. 🐟 🚀 Our Mars Explorers at Sedge Garden Community Center took a high-tech leap into the world of STEM! It was incredible watching these future engineers bring their space missions to life by building and operating their very own rovers. 🖍️ We had a creative morning celebrating National Crayon Day with Specialized & Adaptive Recreation! Our group at Hanes Hosiery Community Center made personal crayon hearts and more. It was a relaxing session filled with art, coffee, and pastries! ☕️ 🍝 Our Kids in the Kitchen at Miller Park Community Center have been mastering kitchen appliances and whipping up tasty meals! Last week the group learned the art of Italian cooking by preparing a delicious spaghetti masterpiece. It was a wonderful way for our young chefs to gain confidence in the kitchen! 🚶‍♀️ We had a wonderful time celebrating National Take a Walk in the Park Day! It was great to see so many people out exploring our beautiful parks and enjoying a stroll through their favorite local spots. Everyone, meet Lucky Logan! 🤩 Lucky Logan's name tells you everything about how his story started. This big, beautiful Shepherd mix was found running near downtown, before a kind stranger pulled over and made sure he got somewhere safe. Now he's here, and we think his luck is about to get even better. Logan is visually striking in his size alone, and he is absolutely nose-first in everything around him. If there's a scent trail within a mile, he knows about it. That working-dog brain needs an outlet, and he's going to thrive with someone who understands that a tired nose is a happy dog.🐶 He's also got a playful side. Logan loves a good game of fetch, which means he's got drive and focus, two things that make training genuinely fun. Logan has been reported to do well with kids and teens, and we'd recommend older kids, given that he is a big, BIG boy who has not quite figured out his own body yet.😆 It's easy to look at him and forget he's still only a little over a year old without much experience with the world. In the afternoon at 1 :30 we sang the hymn Da Jesus an dem Creuze stund; and at three followed the reading of the opening of His side. Meanwhile several small parties of soldiers arrived, Col. Armstrong and Capt. Shepherd, and then 50 horsemen. The first named had just come when an Express arrived with word from Col. Martin that they did not need any more troops below at this time, and shortly thereafter he dismissed the men, telling them to go home and take good care of their farms, and most of them left this evening. The latest arrivals camped for the night in the woods just, below the tavern, so that again it was necessary to place several Brethren on watch. A couple of times several of the men appeared before the door of the Sisters House, but nothing further happened. Capt. Shepherd had impressed our wagon at Bethabara to carry their meal as far as Friedrich Miiller's, but here it was discharged and the meal sent back to the Bethabara mill. The Friedberger had appealed to the County Committee for their guns which had been seized, and had been referred to Col. Armstrong, who now gave them a letter to Capt. Johnston instructing him to return their weapons. For acclaimed harpist and songwriter Mikaela Davis’ new album, Graceland Way (due April 24th), that singularity was a hillside home in Chevy Chase Canyon, a spot nestled in Los Angeles County where time slowed, the world fell away, and Davis could create from a sense of warmth and deep attentiveness. The “canyon country” epic born of that care ties a neo-western future back to the lineage of Laurel Canyon, the mythos of Elvis’s Graceland, and Paul Simon’s restless reinvention—a place where Davis can explore the fragile balance of light and dark, grace and struggle, rose and thorn, as well as the mystical power found at their nexus. The record’s musical big bang originated at the nexus of UHF Studio, where Davis and noted guitarist John Lee Shannon, co-wrote the record and co-produced alongside longtime collaborator Dan Horne. As the album’s story of an unnamed antihero navigating life in a failing world, her harp, his guitar, and their joint melodies weave a mystic depth. That’s immediately evident from the opening track “(Looking Through) Rose Colored Glasses”, a harp glissando burst functioning like a blissful wormhole to a new universe where dark Western tones come aided by Kurt G. Johnson’s pedal steel guitar and transformative harmonies from guest vocalists Madison Cunningham and Tim Heidecker. 🎶 ☀️ Songs To Fill The Air ☀️ 🎶 Belgian-Style Saison brewed w/ Lemon Peel 4.2% ABV Today when we open, this collaboration with our dear friends @divinebarrelclt will be back on draft. Last year, we spoke to their crew about their interest in brewing a saison and they were excited to do it despite the style being a tough sell to most modern drinkers. So we did a 10-barrel batch, brewing it to be a perfect summer crusher with a rustic finish. And y’all embraced it with vigor! It took no time for us to both agree that we had to do it again, and the team at DBB said “let’s double the batch!” We are so appreciative to those guys for being great friends and supporters and being willing to brew this one back up. It’s lovely, light and sunny, with a dry, earthy, soft finish. There will be cans next week available to go, but for now, snag a pint, sit outside, and watch the butterflies dance. Hi, I’m Allison, and it’s been quite a while since I’ve shown my own face around here, so I’m overdue for an introduction. I am very much a person who prefers to be behind the camera instead of in front of it. I’m not quiet or shy - surely you’ve seen I have quite a lot to say 😂 - but I’m not a fan of the limelight. I’d much rather the horses be the ones in the spotlight. That said, there are real people behind this work, and we want you to see that. Josh and I started Red Feather six years ago after learning about the welfare realities of retired Thoroughbred racehorses through my own adopted horse, Mario, who has since passed. I wear a locket of his hair in a necklace that I will never, ever take off. He changed my whole life. Carrying on his legacy is why we’ve dedicated ours to rescuing and advocating for horses in need. Since then, we’ve helped hundreds of animals and supported rescue efforts across species: cows, pigs, goats, cats, dogs, rabbits… you name it. And while this may have started with the two of us, it’s grown into something much bigger. There are now dozens of volunteers and staff showing up every day to care for these animals. And then there’s you. Support doesn’t have to be big or complicated. A lot of the time, it’s as simple as interacting with a post. Commenting, reacting, watching for a few extra seconds... it all helps more people see these horses and understand why this work matters. That’s how these stories travel. So if you’re here, and this work resonates with you, say hello. Tell me where you’re from, what brought you here, or about the animals in your own life. I read more of these than you probably realize. We may have started this, but we’re not doing it alone anymore. And because of that, a lot more of them are here, too. ❤️

He worked at a cafe, explaining the basics of camping to his bewildered colleagues. He tried recording music on the bottom floors of a near-abandoned brownstone. He grew gaunt. And one day, he found himself zip-tied on a couch in his Bushwick sublet, watching as his belongings marched out in the hands of intruders. On Companion, Morris’ home invasion is just another item on the list of subjects ripe for dreamy contemplation, and the list of things Morris dreamily contemplates is long: Moby Dick, God’s will, the real estate market in Durham, scoring coverage on this very website, egg and cheese sandwiches, the flood plane, Pink Moon, his dog’s shadow. He writes in rambling and loose bundles of jokes and observations, often poking fun at himself for his perceived sensitivities. The songs spread outward from Morris’ small voice like paper towel blots. Avery Sullivan, with whom Morris also plays in the country-rock band Fust, keeps loose time on drums, tapping the snare like someone setting down coffee mugs while Libby Rodenbough scrapes out a few melody lines on her fiddle and colors empty spaces with some ghostly tremolo. But that’s about it.
