One year ago today Lilly found her forever home! #HappyTail "Lilly’s gotcha day was March 31st, 2025. She is reactive to strangers and very fearful of most other dogs. This is her graduation picture at WSDTC for basic obedience, her second round of classes and she is going in for her third round April 1st. It will take a lot of work and patience but we see little improvements at each class. She is a sweet little girl and a fantastic hugger! She is also my alarm clock as when she gets hungry, you don’t get any sleep until she is fed. She will drag all the covers off and bark until you give in. So much personality in such a little package" This is what we love to see!

Last week at Recreation and Parks: 🚀 Our Mars Explorers at Sedge Garden Community Center took a high-tech leap into the world of STEM! It was incredible watching these future engineers bring their space missions to life by building and operating their very own rovers. 🐟 Our young explorers kicked off a new session of Nature Kids! Series 1 dove deep into the world of fish, while our Series 2 group took to the skies to learn all about birds. It was a wonderful morning getting a closer look at the amazing wildlife that calls Salem Lake home. 🦉 💧 We had an incredible day of conservation at Salem Lake for Forsyth Creek Week! Participants got to sample macroinvertebrates from the creek and headed into the microscope lab to examine their findings. 🌱 Our volunteers also made a direct impact by live-staking to restore the shoreline and protect our wildlife habitat. A huge thank you to everyone who helped keep Salem Lake healthy and beautiful! 🌮 Our Kids in the Kitchen at Miller Park Community Center have been mastering kitchen appliances and whipping up tasty treats! Last week the group prepared a fresh taco feast and blended refreshing fruit smoothies. 🏃♂️ Everyone stayed moving at Active Afternoon with Specialized & Adaptive Recreation at the Hanes Hosiery Community Center! It was a great way to stay active and enjoy some healthy fun with friends. If you missed out, don’t worry! Meet our sweet girl, Cheyenne. 🤍 At nearly six years old, Cheyenne seems to be deaf, but that doesn’t slow her down one bit. She’s full of joy and loves life just the same. Her happy spirit shines through in everything she does. She’s been thriving in foster care, where she’s discovered just how much she loves cozying up in a lap for long, peaceful naps. When she’s not snuggled up, you can find her playing tag and chase with her foster sibling in the backyard. After a good play session, she’s more than ready to curl up with her favorite people again.🥰 Cheyenne is currently undergoing treatment for heartworms, and we recommend continuing her care with your local veterinarian to keep her on the path to a healthy, happy life. ➡️ If you’re looking for a loving, playful companion with a heart of gold, Cheyenne is your girl. It feels like at least once a year, I find myself saying it out loud again… We’re going to find a bigger farm. A space we can grow into. A place that gives more horses the chance to stay. The vision has evolved since the first time I asked the universe for this. Back then, I thought we might focus only on Thoroughbreds, a breed I will always love deeply. And while they’re still a big part of our world, something shifted as the work unfolded. Mustangs Retired Amish horses Standardbreds Even minis The ones who needed us didn’t fit into a single category. And loving them didn’t either. I think it’s a lot like how your heart expands with each child. You don’t divide it, you realize it was always capable of more. Today I’m sitting in the sun with Margot. The birds are chirping loudly in that happy, early spring kind of way. She’s quiet. At peace. And I keep thinking… this space we’ve created matters. It’s vital, it's necessary, it's powerful. For Margot, of course, but also for every horse like her, and for the people who find their way to her story and begin to understand why advocacy and lifelong care aren’t extras. They’re the point. Her peace feels like proof. Proof that there is more ahead of us. Proof that we’re meant to keep going. So I’ll say it again, like I do every year, but this time with a little more certainty behind it… Red Feather’s future home is out there. And we are going to find it. A farm with the acreage to expand. To grow. To deepen the work. To make the world a kinder place for horses. ❤️🪶
