Every time I think they’ve created the best dessert I’ve ever had, I go back and discover something even more exquisite. This time I had the pleasure of trying their monthly flavor feature cupcakes: 🍋🟩 Key Lime 🫐 Blueberry Chai 🍊 Orange Rosemary The icing is light and fluffy, the flavor combinations are unique but perfectly balanced, and every single one was a knockout. Don’t miss their other featured items either: the Fruity Pebbles cake pop and two specialty cookies - mint chocolate chip and banana pudding. 🍪🌿🍌 And last but not least… the cookie butter blueberry cheesecake. I dare say it might be the best dessert I’ve ever eaten. Sound System Sunday is an event for those who's bedtime usually falls before the start of most late night shows or for those who can't get enough music from Friday and Saturday nights. This show will be geared toward highlighting local and regional DJs and producers on the brand new Shaolin Sound System. The Shaolin Sound System is a custom built, high fidelity sound system, jointly owned by @undgrnd_n and @subsentia. This event serves as a milestone and celebration for sound system culture and the underground electronic music scene in the Triad. For this event, we welcome two pioneers of NC sound system culture - @tunictunes, owner of the @hivi_soundsystem and @graphyte_, owner of the @blackcatsoundsyste. Both of these legendary DJs have brought their custom systems to Winston for some of Subsentia's previous events as well as supplied sound to multiple events for The Undrgrnd. It is truly a full circle moment for sound system culture in the 336 that they help christen the Shaolin Sound System. Rest assured they will come well equipped to test the capabilities of the new system. @place_holder_x (aka Nick Blanchard) - the brains and hands behind the build of the Shaolin Sound System.- will also be joining the system's maiden voyage. It takes the strongest, smartest, most ride-or-die humans on the planet… and somehow, every single one of them showed up for these pigs. No hesitation. No “let me think about it.” Just: “We’re in. Let’s go.” And yes… the video is fun, and it should be because there is so much love in this. But behind every laugh, every clip, every moment you see… are people working nonstop. Late nights. Early mornings. Phones glued to their ears. Tabs open, plans moving, miracles happening in real time. It’s chaos. It’s passion. It’s heart. It’s FAMILY. And I mean this with everything in me… WE are the dream team! The kind of team that turns overwhelming into organized. The kind that refuses to leave a single baby behind. The kind that shows up for each other just as hard as we show up for these animals. This is our fifth hoarding case… and I’ve never felt anything like this before. I will NEVER do another one without these people. Ever. Because what we built here? It’s not just a rescue effort. It’s a bond. It’s trust. It’s knowing that no matter how hard it gets… we’ve got each other and we’ve got them. Every single pig will get where they’re meant to be. Every promise will be kept. And somehow… we’re even having a little fun along the way 🥹🤍 We are in the most EXPENSIVE phase of this hoarding case, spaying 41 females. Right now they are averaging $1800/spay. We’re promising FULLY vetted pigs because we don’t just promise temporary safety, we’re promising a lifetime of protection free from uterine tumors, breeding and shortened lives. These babies have already experienced the worst, only the best from this day onward. If you can spare a few bucks we’d be forever grateful. Many groups have created plans for downtown, but there’s never been one unified vision. Downtown Winston-Salem is at a turning point, and the decisions made now will matter for years. Bowser was abandoned by his owner just over a month ago during one of the coldest winter weather events that our region had seen in years. He was extremely thin, intact (not neutered), and he had an untreated eye injury that was causing him a lot of pain. Our supporters rallied for his medical care and within 72 hours, he had surgery to remove the damaged eye as well as his neuter, vaccines and a microchip! Bowser was on the way to healing!! We quickly found an amazing home with one of our volunteers who has lots of bully breed experience, but that didn't last. Bowser carries a lot of emotional trauma, and he bit one of the adults in his new home while resource guarding. The adopters were heartbroken - it was a scary experience for them, and we agreed to take him back. Knowing that he has triggers and a bite response, we will not be looking for future placements for him. He will stay with us, and we will continue to work to enforce trust, establish boundaries, and provide him with the security that every dog deserves. We don't know yet where this road will lead us, but sanctuary is a commitment we take seriously for all of the animals we help.

Stop by the shelter (closer to the playground) between 4-7 p.m. to learn about the progress on the Piedmont Greenway. What is the Piedmont Greenway? The Piedmont Greenway is a planned 19 mile shared use trail that will connect Salem Lake to Summerfield in Guilford County, traveling through Kernersville, Triad Park, Oak Ridge, and Summerfield. When complete, it will serve as a regional backbone for walking, biking, and outdoor recreation across the Piedmont Triad.

Meet Everest! 🤍 Everest is a three-year-old White German Shepherd with the kind of looks that stop people in their tracks- bright white coat, enormous ears, and an alert, intelligent expression that makes you feel like she's always three steps ahead of you. Everest is playful and social with other dogs, has lived alongside cats, and is good with older kids and teens. On walks, she's all business- sniffing, exploring, taking in the world.🐾 She's not especially interested in strangers, and that's just who she is. She's an independent, aloof girl, not unfriendly, just not the type to velcro herself to you or perform affection on demand. If you appreciate a dog with quiet confidence and her own sense of self, you'll get along just fine. Everest has the instincts and energy of a working breed, and a strong drive to explore. She has proven she can clear a standard fence when motivated, and that's not something training alone will resolve.🐶 A tall, secure fence (min. 6 feet) is a firm requirement for her adoption. She should not be left outside unattended in any space that isn't fully escape-proof. If you have a fence you're unsure about, please ask us before applying. Potential adopters will be asked to confirm their containment setup as part of the adoption process. Beyond that, she needs regular exercise and mental stimulation to be happy and settled. An active household that understands northern or herding breed tendencies will be the right fit for her. Everest has been living outdoors since last spring following a family allergy diagnosis, so she's ready for a home where she can truly belong again. Everest is not a lap dog- she couldn't be if she tried. HE'S BACK. And before anyone says it… no, this isn’t a “through no fault of his own” situation. Bowser bit someone. That’s the reality. What matters is what happens after something like that. We’re not a dog rescue, and we don’t present ourselves as canine behavior experts. But we are responsible for the animals who come through our program, regardless of species or outcome. Behavioral issues don’t exist in a vacuum. They’re influenced by environment, handling, boundaries, stress, and sometimes just the individual animal. When something goes wrong, the response isn’t to assign a label and move on. It’s to reassess, adjust, and decide what that animal needs to be safe and successful going forward. Bowser has been back with us for a week. There’s been an adjustment period as he reintegrates with our dogs and reestablishes routine, which is expected. We’ve made some management changes, and so far, things have been stable. We’re not going to get into the specifics of the incident. That doesn’t serve anyone, including Bowser. What does matter is that he’s here, he’s safe, and we’re committed to managing him responsibly for the long term. This is what we mean when we say we take the hard ones. ❤️

The first ever spring edition of Freak Fest is just over a month away. April 24th-26th, we return to FREAK CITY… Cartersville Country Winery in Timmonsville, SC for a weekend of camping, bands, DJ’s + vendors. Last week at Recreation and Parks: ☀️ Spring Break Camp was a total blast! We had an incredible week with our campers as they dove into a jam-packed schedule of games, crafts, and outdoor fun. We loved seeing all the energy and smiles at Sedge Garden, Polo Park, and Miller Park Community Centers all week long! 🚀 Our Teen Apprentice Program participants took a big step toward their future goals last week! It was an incredible session as the group learned firsthand from a professional Occupational Therapist about the career journey and the impact of the field. We love seeing our teens engage with local professionals and gain the tools they need to find their path! 🥧 We had a sweet time celebrating National Pi Day at Miller Park! It was a fun afternoon filled with pie-themed crafts, pie in the face, and, of course, plenty of delicious pie. We loved seeing everyone come together to celebrate the worlds of math and science in such a tasty way! 🍀 Our annual St. Patrick’s Day Coin Hunt was a lucky success! The Miller Park Amphitheater was filled with excitement as kids hunted for coins, created festive crafts, and enjoyed some special holiday treats. We loved seeing all the green in the park and the big smiles as everyone went home with their crafts and prizes! Meet our beautiful bonded pair, Supreme and Crunch! 🤭 They are almost 2 and a half years old and have been spending their time in foster care, coming out of their shells. They love wand toys, laser “tag,” and sunning while watching the birds out the window. They are still skittish around others, but do enjoy studying people and watching the foster's grandchild play. Blue Ridge Liberation is a large-scale hoarding case in North Carolina involving a very large number of pigs who were failed in every possible way. Many were starving. Many were battling infections and parasites. They did not choose this. They did not deserve this. But they are here now, and they need people to fight for them. So much has gone into getting these pigs to safety, but rescue is not the finish line. Home is. Adoption is how we change the outcome for these animals. Every time one pig is adopted, it creates space, eases the strain on the operation, and gives another animal a real chance at comfort, care, and the life they should have had from the beginning. Sometimes in rescue, you walk into a situation and your heart just drops. When we first arrived at the hoarding case, we truly were not prepared for what we were about to see. Nearly 200 pigs living in unimaginable conditions. Many were already gone — starved before help could reach them. Others were barely hanging on, their tiny bodies being eaten alive by parasites, mange, and infections that had been ignored for far too long. Out of that devastation, 163 lives were able to come with us. But we knew the fight was only beginning. One of those babies was Harper. When we first saw him, he was shaking. His entire little body was caked in severe mange. His immune system was completely depleted, and he was fading fast. We rushed him to the hospital where he spent over a week fighting for his life. Back at the farm, his brother Winston was alone for the first time in his life. These two boys had never been apart. They slept together. Ate together. Found comfort in each other in a world that had never been kind to them. And Winston… he was heartbroken. He would stand quietly by himself. Some days he wouldn’t even get up to eat. You could see the sadness in him. Imagine everything they had just been through — taken from the only place they knew, surrounded by strangers, chaos, vet visits, new smells, new sounds… and then suddenly the one soul he trusted most was gone. But Harper was fighting. And finally… he won. This week, Harper got his graduation papers from the hospital. And we brought him home. When Winston saw him… something magical happened. The moment they realized they had found each other again was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever witnessed in rescue. Pure relief. Pure love. Two brothers who survived the unthinkable, finally back together where they belong. Moments like this are why we fight so hard for them. Because every single one of these animals is someone. Someone who feels loss. Someone who feels joy. Someone who just wants the comfort of family. Multi instrumentalist, composer, and producer Kevin Beck often appears across the North Carolina scene as a sideman, however, the Winston-Salem-born artist has been steadily building and refining a body of work that spans genres and idioms. Over the past three weeks, this operation has required an extraordinary amount of work from people across multiple organizations. Teams from @ziggysrefuge , @redfeatherfarmnc , @easternsnoutspigs , @rise_of_the_pig , and many others have been on the ground every single day. Animals have been stabilized, transported, evaluated by vets, and moved through staging so they can begin the next step toward permanent homes. The reality is that large scale rescues are complicated. They involve logistics, legal considerations, veterinary coordination, transport schedules, and the physical work of caring for dozens upon dozens of animals at once. That work rarely looks dramatic online. Most of the time it looks like loading trailers, hauling feed, coordinating volunteers, and moving pigs from one safe place to the next. In three weeks, an enormous amount has been accomplished. Hundreds of hours of labor. Dozens of transports. Veterinary care that had to be coordinated across state lines. Teams working morning to night to make sure every animal is safe and accounted for. What matters is the work. And the work is happening every single day. The organizations involved in this effort are focused on the animals and on getting them the care, stability, and homes they deserve. That has been the priority from the beginning, and it remains the priority now. If people want to help, there are real ways to do it. Adopt. Volunteer. Donate. Endless cleaning, feeding, medicating, and comforting animals who came to us with nothing. Rescue is not easy work, but it is meaningful work. Every animal here receives proper veterinary care, including sterilized surgical procedures when needed, and the best medical support we can provide. Their health and wellbeing will always be our priority. We will continue to focus on what matters most, showing up, doing the work, and giving these animals the lives they deserve. 163 pigs are safe today because people chose compassion, action, and hard work. The Forsyth Humane Society is proud to announce our new Battle Buddy Program! The Battle Buddy program was born from lived experience. In service, dogs often stayed with troops on base camps and fire bases. They became trusted companions, offering comfort during stress, fear, and uncertainty. That same bond can still change lives today. We invite our veterans to adopt a dog or cat through our Battle Buddy Program. As a part of this program, adoption fees for Battle Buddy dogs and cats are waived. These animals will become companions. A veteran will gain a loyal friend, and a shelter pet gains a forever home. Because no one should fight alone, and every shelter pet deserves a chance. We are proud to partner with the Forsyth County Animal Shelter and Veterans Bridge Home to bring this program to life.
