Meet our beautiful girl, Dolly!😊 Dolly is a sweet, affectionate 1-year-old large breed mix who is quick to win hearts, though she may need a little time to warm up to new people and places. We've noticed that Dolly walks nicely without pulling or bolting, even when something catches her attention. She lived alongside other dogs at her previous home and has enjoyed playing with housemates and neighborhood pups. We think she would love a playmate of her own.😆 Dolly also lights up around kids! She's shown us she's gentle and calm with children, staying settled and relaxed with all four paws on the floor during introductions. Important note: Dolly cannot live in a home with chickens or poultry. She'd do best in a home without backyard birds. Last Week at Recreation and Parks: ⚾️ The Police Athletic League Tee Ball season is officially underway! We're excited to see these young athletes hit the field, learn new skills, build friendships, and have fun all summer long. Here's to a great season filled with teamwork, growth, and plenty of smiles! 🎧 What a night! The Youth & Teen Initiative hosted a Teen Silent Party at the Hanes Hosiery Community Center, featuring three DJs playing hip-hop, R&B, and gospel music. Upon arrival, participants received wireless headphones and could switch between DJs throughout the event. Teens danced, sang, and grooved the night away while enjoying a unique and exciting experience with friends! 👟 WePlay Track wrapped up its final meet at JDL Fast Track! Our athletes gave it their all in the 50m, 100m, 300m, 50m Relay, and 4x200 Relay events. We’re proud of their hard work and dedication throughout the season. He was extremely energetic, extremely needy, and due to his tough start in life, had no training or idea how to function in a home, with people or with other pets. It has taken a lot of work, patience and love to get him to where he is today. Where he is today… a happy, sweet pup that never runs out of enthusiasm to play and get pets. A ferocious guard dog that alerts us to anyone outside. A comic that never fails to amuse. And most importantly an all around wonderful companion to the family. Make no mistake… it wasn’t an easy year, he had separation, trust, and abuse issues to get over, but the last year has unearthed a really sweet boy who we are so happy we rescued!" We are so happy to hear this beautiful update!

Winston-Salem, NC is full of surprises! @visitwinstonsalem 🚙 Perfectly located between Charlotte & Raleigh make this the ideal town for a weekend getaway! These were my favorite surprises I came across in this historical town ⬇️ 1. Covered bridge. Old Salem @oldsaleminc 2. The historic shell-shaped gas station (not in use anymore, but peak in the window for a jump scare)! 3. Old Salem. Historic town built by Moravian settlers in the 1700’s 4. Huge Teapot. Found in Old Salem. Tradesmen would place large replicas of their trade on front doors to announce what service they provided, since most didn’t speak English (also next to the location of the 1st Krispy Kreme donut shop, but sadly, no longer there) 5. Around town. Old cigarette vending machines have been converted to miniature art vending machines for a fun surprise treasure 6. The huge lotus field is a bit of a scavenger hunt to find the boardwalk access. Good luck! 7. Reynolda Estate. Former house, gardens, and village of tobacco tycoon, RJ Reynolds. Now open to the public for touring, shopping, and dining @historicreynolda @reynoldavillage 8. Yadkin Valley. There are 45 wineries within 45 miles surrounding Winston-Salem! RIVER TUBING – It may be a low and slow float, but there’s still fun to be had on the Yadkin River this summer! ➡️ WHAT: North Carolina River Riders, located less than an hour from Winston-Salem, offers 2.5-, 4.5-, and 6.5-mile float trips on the scenic Yadkin River from May through October. 🛟 PLAN YOUR TRIP: Rent a tube, Tube Tracker (a tube/kayak hybrid), canoe, or kayak. Bringing your own tube? They offer a shuttle service, and they’ll even inflate your tube before taking you upriver. 💡KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: • The slower river flow means that ride times are nearly double versus normal. • Wear water shoes or sandals with secure heel straps. The Coalition for Responsible Carriage Horse Retirement was formed to answer the question we’ve all heard for years: “Where will the horses go if the New York City carriage horse industry ends?” Together with rescue organizations, sanctuaries, veterinarians, and equine professionals, we’ve built a responsible retirement plan and are ready to work with the City, carriage horse owners, and other partners to give these horses the retirement they deserve. Now we need your voice. On July 15, the New York City Council will hold a public hearing on Romanch’s Law (Intro. 967). You can help by submitting a written testimony in support of the bill through the NYC Council website: https://council.nyc.gov/testify/ Need ideas? Your testimony can be just a few sentences. • Start with asking the Council to pass Romanch’s Law (Intro. 967). • Share why you believe the New York City carriage horse industry should end. • Explain why horses deserve retirement and a life beyond city streets. • Mention that safe retirement options already exist through a comprehensive transition plan. • Share how you feel about horses working in extreme heat, heavy traffic, or other city conditions. • Remind the Council that New York City is no place for a prey animal and that tragedies will continue until meaningful change is made. • Close by asking the Council to vote YES on Romanch’s Law. Do you remember Tango? The horse we liberated from a downtown backyard after discovering he had been living with a halter zip tied to his face because his owner said he was "hard to catch?" Just look at him now. His stall door is open and he could leave at any time, but he chooses this. 💜 When Tango first arrived, he was flighty, anxious, and always looking for the nearest exit. The very first thing we did was remove that halter and make him a promise: never again. At Red Feather, we believe in consent-based, positive training methods that give horses autonomy over their bodies and their choices. Our philosophy is simple: we should never have to "catch" a horse. Horses should choose to come to us because they associate people with safety, trust, kindness, and good things. Watching Tango's transformation into making that choice has been one of the greatest rewards. I also hope the people on social media who accused us of "stealing a woman's horse" (despite us clearly explaining that she contacted me herself and voluntarily transferred him into our care) can see the difference in his spirit today. This is why we advocate so fiercely for horses like Tango. Sometimes the most profound transformation isn't physical at all. It's the moment a horse realizes they no longer have to be afraid.

Moo's 8 precious butterflies are almost 4 weeks old! 🦋💜 (I'm missing a few photos because puppies are squirmy and hard to photograph) These babies are already tipping the scales at 5.5+ pounds each, so we're pretty convinced dad was a large- to giant-breed dog! They're nursing Moo absolutely dry, and their incredible foster mom has been supplementing them with formula around the clock. It's safe to say these little chunks haven't missed many meals. 😆 We're starting to look for experienced foster and adoptive homes within 50 miles of Winston-Salem. With the extreme heat and drought we've experienced this summer, I can't help but feel especially grateful that we were able to get this little family off the streets and into a safe, loving home. Meet our beautiful Chloe! 🤩 Chloe is a 5-year-and-6-month-old long-haired lady with soft fur, striking green eyes, and a thoughtful approach to life. She prefers a quieter pace and enjoys spending time near her people rather than being the center of attention. Chloe is looking for a calm home that will give her time to settle in and let her set the pace for friendship. Once she settles in, Chloe likes companionship on her own terms. She may follow you from room to room, supervise your daily activities, or lounge nearby while you relax for the evening. She enjoys cozy spots, high perches, scratchers, and the occasional Churu treat. Chloe would do best as the only cat in the home. Because the shelter environment isn't her style, Chloe is currently available to meet through foster care. Open to children Kindergarten - 8th grade, this clinic gives young players the chance to build their skills, stay active, and have fun on the field before cheering on the Dash that evening. Sundae is out of surgery! 💜 Hopefully, the hardest part of Sundae's journey is finally behind her. Dr. Ortved called me just a few minutes ago to let me know that Sundae is awake and recovering. During surgery, they made the decision to fuse her entire knee joint on this leg, rather than just the lower portion like they were able to do on the first leg. Because of her unusual anatomy, it became clear during the procedure that a full fusion would give her the best chance at a stable, comfortable future. That's exactly why she was at New Bolton Center. I'm so incredibly grateful for Dr. Ortved and the entire surgical team who have cared so deeply for our tiny girl. Our hospital bill as of this morning, before today's surgery, was already $14,137. By the time Sundae comes home, we're expecting the total to be close to $30,000. I have to admit, I'm still a little disappointed that none of the famous Steves ever heard about Project Steve. One yes could have changed everything. But we'll keep pushing forward like we always do. We'll keep praying, keep fundraising, and keep brainstorming because this little horse has fought far too hard for us to do anything less. For today, though, I'm choosing relief over worry. Sundae made it through surgery. She's recovering in the very best hands. And for the first time in a while, it really feels like we're turning the corner. 💜

Sundae is having surgery today. Thank you to every single person who has checked on her, sent kind messages, prayed, crossed your fingers, or donated toward her care. Facing not one, but two major surgeries on a tiny little foal has been incredibly scary. Add to that the fact that she's been away from home for more than a month now, and the reality of the medical bills... it's been a heavy place to be sometimes. Your love has been felt. 💜 Sundae is in the very best hands at New Bolton Center, and we truly believe these surgeries are her only chance at a comfortable, meaningful life. Watching these videos again from before her first surgery just reinforces that for me. She is only about seven months old, and she already had arthritis in her knees. Babies shouldn't have arthritis. We hoped corrective shoeing would buy her some comfort, and while it did help straighten her legs, it also changed the angle of her fetlock and pastern in a way that put even more stress on her knees. We were solving one problem while creating another. It became clear that surgery wasn't just an option. It was her chance. So today, she undergoes her second world-class surgery. This one will permanently fuse her knee joint to provide the stability her little body simply can't achieve on its own. Most horses never get an opportunity like this. I don't take that for granted for one second. I truly believe Sundae found her way to Red Feather for a reason. I'm going to ask one more time for your help. Sundae's medical costs are expected to exceed $30,000, and we're still a long way from reaching that goal. I'm sharing that because I want to be honest with you. I don't know exactly how we'll get there, but I have to believe the same kind of magic that brought Sundae to us will carry us through the rest of her journey. Please keep Sundae and her incredible surgical team in your thoughts today.
