🧑‍🍳 𝐌𝐞𝐧 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐤 🧑‍🍳 A Preview Event, Featuring Smoke Revival Meat Co. Saturday August 1, 5-9 PM Jordan, Yev, Adrian, and Evan are representing Brouwerij DuBois in the annual Men Who Cook fundraiser for SECU Family House this year, one of 16 participating teams. That event, which is in a couple of weeks, is ticketed and attendees will get to explore the signature dishes that all chef teams create and serve. If you’re interested in that, visit their site and buy a ticket! But this Saturday, Smoke Revival (Adrian and Evan) are popping up to serve supper, and we will be offering a preview of our signature dish for the event: “Peach Tea Glazed Pork Belly Bites with Collard Greens and Cornbread Crumble” We wanted you all, our BD family, to get to try the dish, plus it allows us a practice run before the big event. Come and get it! Plus, they’ll be selling a whole range of their signature items: amazing brisket, luscious pulled pork, and all the sides you love like street corn and mac n cheese. If you know about Smoke Revival, you know that the food is amazing, and they always sell out. Get here early so you don’t miss out. We will also be accepting donations via QR code for our Brouwerij DuBois team fundraising goal. If you love the food and love the cause (the SECU Family House does incredible work) then we would be honored to have your support. And, anyone that donates $20 or more will receive a raffle ticket. One raffle winner will receive 2 tickets to the actual Mean Who Cook event, along with a couple of other prizes. The water main is beneath a pond in a remote area, 40 feet underground. Isolating the water main has already restored service to several critical facilities, with water pressure recovering across the system. BOIL ADVISORY: Still in effect. Water quality testing began last night in areas where pressure has returned to normal and will continue today; the advisory will lift once testing confirms there hasn’t been any contamination. DISTRIBUTION SITES: Free bottled water is available today (drive-thru, one case per vehicle) at: ~ Griffith Elementary School ~ Kennedy High School ~ Kernersville Elementary School ~Walkertown High School GOOD TO KNOW: Crews will also be flushing fire hydrants in affected areas to restore water quality and clear the system of air and sediment.

NEXT STEPS: A boil water notice is in effect for the area. Crews are working to make repairs. Once water service is restored, boil water before use for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, ice, and food prep for at least 1 minute, or use bottled water. Please message or email for info on the foster & adoptive programs. Unfortunately, Moo remains in medical foster as we've recently discovered that she is heartworm positive. She will remain in treatment while we get her spayed, have her blind eye removed and get her fully cleared of heartworm. From August 3 to 8, community members can adopt a single cat or kitten for $100, or two cats or kittens for $150. The fee includes spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, deworming, flea treatments, a FeLV/FIV test, and a microchip. AARF has many kittens and cats ready for adoption, all viewable at aarfws.org. Some adoptable cats are staying at the AARF House, 302 Thurston Street in Winston-Salem, where visitors can meet them in person. Their imaginative designs were a big hit, and everyone had fun bringing their creepy-crawly creations to life. 🎶 William Roscoe Anderson Jr. Campers had a blast playing Musical Hula Hoops. The game brought lots of laughter, excitement, and friendly competition as campers danced and moved to the music. 🥬 Teens in Action campers spent the morning volunteering at Second Harvest Food Bank, helping support local hunger relief efforts through their service project. Formed in Cleveland in 1976, the Dead Boys were one of the first American acts to combine the proto-punk fervor of bands like the Stooges and the New York Dolls with a new level of intense energy. The 1977 debut LP, Young, Loud and Snotty was a landmark album in the birth of hardcore punk and produced one of the first great punk anthems, "Sonic Reducer." After one more album, the band split in 1979. They reunited for a few gigs in the 1980s, but following the death of lead vocalist Stiv Bators in 1990, the band members went their separate ways except for two brief reunions in 2004 and 2005. What started as a desperate attempt to save a little foal with severe limb deformities has become one of the most incredible journeys I've ever witnessed. Sundae has faced every challenge with so much determination, and thanks to the extraordinary team at New Bolton and the unwavering support of this community, she now has the chance to grow up surrounded by love. Lower Cascades: A scenic 0.8-mile out-and-back with dramatic rock walls and a large pool at the base. Park at 2143 Hall Road, Walnut Cove. Other Falls: Upper Cascades (from the Visitor Center) and Tory’s Den Falls (from the Tory’s Den lot) are both easy 0.4-mile round trips. 📍1790 Hanging Rock Park Road, Danbury OUR TAKE: Team member Stevie says Window Falls is less crowded but is all uphill on the way back. I’m not going to lie, it’s been the hardest year of my life. Losing George a few days after opening really made me lose almost all of my spark and joy, on top of being a small business owner in this day and age, it is beyond difficult. There are many days when I question if it’s worth it. Then I come in and I see all of your happy faces with your sweet pups (and kitties!) and remember why it’s all worth it and how blessed we are to be in such a wonderful community. Your support continues to allow us to help rescues and shelters and keep feeding pets to help keep them in their homes. I know times are hard for a lot of us, but please continue to support us, however you can; even if that is a share, or telling your friends, families, co-workers about our store, it helps more than you may know! We will do a proper PAWty in November to celebrate 5 years of being open, so keep an 👁️ out for that!

She follows me everywhere—even to the shower, where she waits behind the glass so she can lick my legs the moment I step out. She’s not a fan of walks, so we spend our time playing in the backyard. Her greatest joy? Sticks. You can buy every toy on the planet and she’ll still choose a stick every time. She zoomies like a pro and lights up when I pretend I’m going to catch her or boop her as she flies past. She also has a big extended family who adores her. Her grandparents FaceTime with her every night, her cousins visit from college, and she loves making dog friends - as long as no one touches her toys. And once someone sits on the couch, they’re hers forever. She’ll snuggle right in, drop her big bully head on their chest, and claim them. She even has her own little cabin in Asheville for when she needs a getaway. I love her so much. Do you know what causes a "step" like this in a horse's mouth? 👇 Answer: When a horse is missing a tooth, the opposing tooth no longer has anything to wear against. Because horses' teeth continuously erupt throughout their lives, that tooth can keep growing longer than the surrounding teeth, creating a noticeable "step." Left untreated, it can interfere with chewing and lead to additional dental problems. This is the inside of Siri's mouth. You may remember that when we first rescued her through a law enforcement seizure, she had a badly fragmented and deeply infected molar that required an intensive surgical extraction. Several years later, and after lots of patience and excellent dental care, Siri has done so well that she's now on a routine annual floating schedule like most of the other Red Feather horses. It's a milestone that doesn't get much attention, but it says a lot about how far she's come. Last week, our veterinarian completed routine dental exams and floats for eight of our equine friends, helping keep them comfortable, healthy, and able to get the most nutrition from every meal. 🩵

NEW ART GALLERY — NCMA Winston-Salem downtown is now open! 🎨 🕰️ BACKGROUND: Founded in 1956 as an artist-run gallery on Trade Street, this institution (formerly SECCA) spent decades at the Hanes estate off Reynolda Road. This morning we inspected the large fire engine in the Market-Fire House!⁠ ⁠ In 1784, Salem's tavern caught fire and burned to the ground. This led to the organization of a system for the community to put out future fires. Large fire engines, like this one, could be moved to the fire by two or three people when empty. To pump the engine, it required a crew of twelve men, with six on each side. Another twelve men were on standby to provide relief. Water flows freely from the hose when the system is under sixty to eighty pounds of pressure.

She’s friendly with humans and does well meeting other dogs on leash. Her energy level is just right: enthusiastic for walks, playful, and always ready to chase birds, squirrels, and chipmunks, but without the nonstop intensity of a puppy. Indoors, she entertains herself with a chew toy or a favorite stuffy—she’s hilarious when she tosses it in the air and pounces after it. She’s affectionate, house‑trained, and walks nicely on a leash. Because she’s so bonded to her humans, her recall is excellent. She would thrive in a home without cats or other small, prey‑like pets. A quick #ThrowbackThursday to only a couple of weeks ago when we celebrated our Free Dome Fest! Our Digital Dome is full of different kinds of shows, with fan favorites being our Live Planetarium Shows and Musical Laser Matinee programs. We wanted to celebrate what makes our Digital Dome so special, so we threw a party about it! On June 27, last month, we experienced the Kaleideum’s Digital Dome Theater completely FREE with our museum admission or membership! Our Digital Dome staff enjoyed giving you laser light shows, live planetarium tour, family-friendly movies, trivia, Dome Karaoke, and more! In LASTEAM, we had zoetropes, flipbooks, and shadow projectors for you to see, experience, and enjoy. We hope you'll come see the Digital Dome during your visit. Thank you all for coming by!
