"A man came from the Atkin and said that Mr. Brooks, who had been sent Express to find out about the Indian affairs, had returned. He reported that the Indians had killed three men in Powels Valley. From the three tribes, Creeks, Chickasaws and Cherokees, about seven hundred warriors had turned out against the settlements, not by order of the royal officers, but incited by about forty whites, who had fled to them from the Congaree. The chiefs of the Cherokee Nation had not approved, but the younger men would not obey them…"
The American War for Independence ignited a new war between colonists in the Southeast and the Cherokee. Memories of the 1759-1761 Anglo-Cherokee War were still fresh in the minds of both colonists and indigenous peoples. Borders established by treaties ending the earlier conflict were increasingly ignored by Georgians, Carolinians, and Virginians, as settlers continued to push into the Appalachian Mountains and beyond into what is now Tennessee and Kentucky. The Moravians in Wachovia were now surrounded by conflict: the possibility of British coastal landings to the East, local Whigs and Tories persecuting each other, and now a renewed conflict with native peoples to the West.

Ace is a very sweet and playful little guy who would do well in a variety of situations. He seems to take to women quickly but can be a bit shy with men at first, although he does warm up over time. He’s got plenty of playful energy, but he’s equally calm and quiet, preferring some down time sitting on your lap or in a comfy spot.
He’s house trained and does very well in the crate, both for breaks during the day and to sleep at night.
He loves other dogs, male and female. He is thrilled to play with his foster sister who is a very sassy chiweenie. He’s also a fan of toys; stuffed squirrels and chewy bones appear to be his favorites so far. He loves walks and can be a bit enthusiastic, though he doesn’t pull excessively most of the time.
Ace is a lovable guy with all the qualities that would make him a great fit for a lot of families!

Sundae had a CT scan yesterday, which gave the surgical team the information they needed to finalize a plan for next week's procedure. One of the coolest things I learned today is that the 3D printer isn't being used to create an implant. Instead, they're printing a full 3D model of Sundae's leg so the surgeons can practice the procedure before she ever enters the operating room.
This is a major surgery, and there are still decisions that may need to be made once the team gets in there. That's exactly why the CT scan was so important. It allows the surgeons to prepare for different scenarios and gives Sundae the best possible chance for a successful outcome.
What gives me a lot of comfort is knowing that she's receiving care at one of the best veterinary surgical centers in the country. She has an entire team of specialists planning every detail of her case, and it's hard to imagine her being in better hands.
Dr. Ortved told me that everyone at New Bolton is completely obsessed with Sundae. She laughed and said Sundae is "sunshine," and apparently she's become quite popular with the staff. No surprise there!
And one final piece of exciting news: we get to keep the 3D model of her leg when all of this is over! I can't wait to show it to you.
Thank you all for following along on this journey and for making this level of care possible. Every step of the way, I'm reminded that this tiny pony is loved by so many people.

This highly sought after paper was a truly Moravian tradition used in the 18th century for book binding, stationary, and crafts. This workshop will teach you the techniques you need to make small journals, ledgers, or even pocket sketchbooks.

WHAT: Those poppies blooming on the I-40 Stratford Road on-ramp aren’t a happy accident. They’re part of @ncdotcom’s Wildflower Program, beautifying North Carolina highways since 1985.
HOW: The program is largely funded through personalized license plate sales, so if you’ve ever needed an excuse to get a colorful plate... here it is.
BACKGROUND: Credit goes to Dottie Martin, wife of former Governor Jim Martin, who discovered a similar program in Texas and brought the idea home to NC.

Willow is almost 10 months old and is super sweet and social. She loves playing with her foster siblings, both animal and human. She is exceedingly gentle but occasionally forgets just how big she is. This girl loves to run, tug and wrestle. After playing she enjoys a long nap on a couch. She most enjoys being with her people, and can often be found underfoot, despite her size. Willow can be shy at first and takes a little time to warm up in new situations. She does not respond well to raised voices or being pushed too quickly. She is however a very quick learner and responds exceedingly well to patience and calm training techniques. While large, she is still very much a puppy, prone to chewing and zoomies when she hasn’t had enough exercise or mental stimulation. She is working on being brave while walking on leash. She knows sit, down and paw. She is crate trained, house trained, and does well with other dogs and cats.

These sweet girls are only 6 months old and are looking to find their forever home together. They've been spending their time mostly in foster care, where they have come out of their shells.
They love eating side by side, chasing each other around the house, and curling up together after playtime. Both absolutely adore being held and start purring the second you pick them up.🤭
Priscilla is an affectionate, curious little kitten with so much personality packed into her tiny body. She absolutely loves being held and will happily stay curled up in your arms while purring away.
Priscilla has a silly, raspy little meow and an adventurous spirit that makes her the perfect kitty to be around. She loves exploring, playing, and staying close to her people wherever they go. Priscilla is incredibly sweet, social, and easy to love. Her beautiful, fluffy tail and expressive face make it impossible not to adore her. Whether she’s exploring the space or cuddling up beside you, Priscilla brings so much joy and affection everywhere she goes.❤️
Patience is a gentle, sweet little girl with the softest personality. She may be shy at first, but once she feels safe, she absolutely melts into affection. I wanted to take a moment to appreciate Josh. Most of you know me (Allison) because I'm usually the one behind the camer... I wanted to take a moment to appreciate Josh.
Most of you know me (Allison) because I'm usually the one behind the camera and keyboard, but standing beside me & every horse here is Josh.
He's the one fixing things in the evenings after he gets off work... Hauling hay... Troubleshooting broken equipment... Keeping me grounded when the days are hard and celebrating with me when they're good.
This week marked our 20th wedding anniversary, and we celebrated it exactly how we wanted to: together, taking Capri and Lana Del Bray to an obstacle clinic and spending the day helping horses learn and grow. It was perfection.
It was also a big week for another reason: Capri turned 5 years old! It feels impossible that our little Prom Queen is already five. Capri was born right here at Red Feather after we rescued her mom, Topanga. Watching her grow up has been one of the greatest privileges of this journey. Where does the time go?!
Capri, Topanga, Lana, and all the others are safe today because of people like you. Your support creates something so much bigger than feed, fencing, or veterinary care. It creates permanence. It creates a safety net. It creates a future.
And that's exactly what we're trying to create for Steve and Sundae, too.
