Besides my 1957 Fender Tweed Deluxe, my 1948 National Model 50 amplifier is the best small vintage amp that I currently own. I bought it last summer at Heydey Guitars in Winston Salem NC and have been in love with it ever since.

At a low volume it’s sweet and singing with surprising long sustain and when it’s cranked it turns visceral with thick, creamy distortion that’s touch sensitive. Don’t be fooled by how small it is, this thing is LOUD.

The Model 50 is a rare, hard to find amp but it’s worth looking for because this is a highly inspiring amp every guitarist should have in their arsenal and I dive into all the tones and textures of it on the latest episode of Out Of Control Vintage. The missing link for that lives in the bio house. #vintageamp #vintageamps #vintageamplifier
