Alecia Washington served as one of our Youth Grantmakers in Action members this year. We are so proud of her! ?#NEW: This weekend will be a special moment for many high school seniors as they walk across the stage during their graduation, including for Alecia Washington…. Washington recently made history as she is the first African-American student to become valedictorian at R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem in 100 years. While she is proud of this achievement, she’s more excited about the impact and the message this can send to younger students who look like her, especially those who live in underserved communities. Hear from Washington and her mother on WXII 12 NEWS at 4 and 6 p.m. “No matter what the world or society may say about them or views them, if you’re passionate about something, work hard, use your resources, value the relationships you are making along the way. Accomplish it. Do the unthinkable. Do the impossible.” FULL STORY: http://www.wxii12.com/…/triad-senior-becomes-first…/44131876
