I came across Jimmy Reed’s music in my early teens and it affected me in a big way. Fortunately that was due to finding a few of his records at the public library and one of them called ‘Ride ‘Em On Down’ featured a guitarist named Eddie Taylor singing and playing on side B. That record would become one of my all time favorite Blues albums. I would also go on to learn that a lot of what I loved about Jimmy Reed was actually Eddie Taylor backing him up on his recordings and that Eddie taught Jimmy to play the guitar.

Eddie Taylor isn’t as well known as his contemporaries but his contribution to the sound of Chicago Blues is unmistakable. Jimmy Reed was a household name in the 50’s and 60’s and I doubt he would have gained that popularity without Eddie Taylor who’s guitar style has deeply influenced my own playing over the years. Here’s our take on his song ‘Ride ‘Em On Down’ (full video lives in a trailer park called bio) #eddietaylor #chicagoblues
