Here’s a throwback for Thursday, this is me at age 26 in 2004 at The Double Door in Charlotte NC. I spent many Blues soaked nites on that stage.

A fond memory out of many there was the nite my own gig in Winston Salem got canceled and I decided to go watch Bob Margolin’s band which consisted of Chuck Cotton and Mookie Brill at that time. A handful of musicians ended up playing onstage with Bob, me being one of them. I was sitting in along with the late Robin Rogers who was singing and suddenly the power went out. Everyone got off the bandstand except Robin who launched into ‘Fever’ in the dark with Mookie Brill backing her up on his upright bass acoustic.

It was the last song of the nite, the power never came back on. That’s just one of many stories I could tell about my experiences at the Double Door, maybe the rest could make for a good Shiloh Saloon Stories?

Little did I know that three years later after this photo was taken that my musical career would really start to get in motion and reach heights that I didn’t think were attainable. In 2007 I released my first album of all original material which was a hit on Blues radio around the world and also stayed in the top 10 for a spell as a “pick to click” on Sirius XM’s “Bluesville”.

All of that helped get my name out there and I would go to Washington DC the following year and record more of my original songs live at XM studios with a backing band that consisted of Chuck Cotton, Matt Hill and Bob Margolin. XM played those recordings for a few years and I made some decent money.

The rest is history but guess what? I did all of that without social media or Spotify, go figure.
