Day 12: Remembering Local History during Black History Month. The A. Robinson Building, also known as the Howard-Robinson Building or the Pyramid Barber Shop, is a historic commercial building located at the corner of 7th Street and Patterson Avenue in Winston-Salem. Constructed in 1940, the building is named after Aladine Robinson, who designed it for his funeral business. Most notably, the north and south facades of this brick commercial building were made by hand by celeb…rated local brickmaker George S. Black. In 1998, the building was recognized in the National Register of Historic Places. The Depot Street Renaissance mural by Leo Rucker represents the contributions of just a few of the many individuals, businesses and institutions that made the neighborhood that is now the Innovation Quarter a prestigious community and a thriving hub of Black enterprise.
