Tempranillo, known for its versatility and depth, has been the cornerstone of Spanish viticulture for centuries. Its name comes from the Spanish word “temprano,” meaning early, a nod to its tendency to ripen early in the harvest season. But don’t let its name fool you; there’s nothing rushed about the beauty of Tempranillo. The grape finds its home primarily in the sun-drenched vineyards of Spain, particularly in regions like Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and Toro. Each region lends its unique terroir to the wine, resulting in a diverse spectrum of Tempranillo expressions. From the bold and structured wines of Ribera del Duero to the elegant and nuanced offerings of Rioja, there’s a Tempranillo for every palate and occasion.
